Cranford by Mrs Gaskell Illustrated by Hugh Thomson Macmillan and Co 1903 Fine Leather Bound Book

This is a lovely fine leather copy of Cranford, privately issued for Girls' High School Retford.  It is red leather with gilt decoration to front cover and spine with gilt decoration to edges front and rear.  The endpages are marbled in burgundy and blue with tight, unbroken hinges. The leather has light rubbing and minimal surface scratches.  There is some surface disturbance where I believe a book plate would have been.  There is light foxing to out pages but main body of the book is in excellent condition with black and white illustrations by Hugh Thomson.  There is a foreword by Anne Thackeray Ritchie.  This copy was published in 1903 by Macmillan and Co.
